Palestinian Authority Prefers Dirty Drinking Water To Help From Israel

One of the most pervasive hardships of life in Gaza is the difficulty of finding pure tap water. An estimated 90 to 95% of tap water in Gaza is polluted, presenting obvious health hazards to its inhabitants. In an attempt to address this situation, UNICEF set out to build a desalination plant in Gaza. Although a clause in the bidding procedure gave priority to local bidders who could be identified as Palestinian Arabs, there was no one in Gaza or the West Bank who was qualified to build such a facility.
